Team Overview - Week 11

Week 11, Meeting 1:
Cancelled due to lecturer absence.

Week 11, Meeting 2:
Date: 23/04/2010

Time: 01:00pm until 01:30pm
Staff present: Brian Morris, Phil Carlisle
Location: C2 – 04a

This week's meeting with Brian and Phil had the team discussing work completed over Easter and our plans for the Milestone 1 Presentation next week. As both Claire and Amanda were away, our refined methods as to how we were going to record test data was pitched to Brian and Phil, with feedback given for each.

The main issue we faced was concerning how we were to gather metrics by using Steam Demo files. Our current method, measuring from the eye, would not give as accurate results as desired. This lead us to discuss other ways we could record this data, such as with heat maps or triggers. The team also spoke about the testing environment, with both lecturers giving suggestions as to how we could help test subjects feel more comfortable. This would ultimately have the empathy they show towards our NPC clearer, as a relaxed environment can help players convey more accurate emotions.

Items addressed:
i. Easter Work.
ii. Feedback.
iii. Test Ideas.
iv. Data Collection.
v. Metrics.
vi. Testing Environment.

Who are we?

Team Fable is a group of five students working on their 'Level 3 Team Project' at the University of Bolton.

All posts and work uploaded to this blog will be monitored by assessors and all content will count towards the teams final mark.

What is our aim?

Our project aim is to research the usage of non-playable characters in games and investigate what drives player reactions to them.

By researching into this, we hope to evolve storytelling in games by defining the characteristics players find most compelling in NPCs, ultimately leaving with more engaging characters.

What are our roles?

The team roles are as follows:

Kyle Cherry - Research & Documentation.
Lee Sparkes - Human Resources.
Lewis Morgan - Level Design Lead.
Adam Parker - Art Design Lead.
Stephen Austin - Testing Lead.

Despite having specific lead roles, all members in the group will contribute to all areas of the project.
