During the three week Easter break, team members were set several tasks to complete for the week commencing the 19th of April. The tasks mainly consisted of writing up ideas for what we should include in our test and to have researched existing investigations of a similar nature to ours. Outstanding work was also and posted on the blog either before or during the weekend meeting post the meet up with Claire and Amanda on the 20th of April.
Once back at University, the team met up on the 18th of April to discuss and plan our testing phase ready for discussion with Claire and Amanda on the 20th of April. Details of the meeting are as follows...
Week 11, Team Meet Up:
Date: 18/04/2010
Time: 1:00pm until 2:30pm
Staff present: None
Location: C2 – 04a
By reading through work completed over the Easter period and by engaging in group discussions, we first decided the model for our female NPC character, her appearance and characteristics.
We also worked out exactly how we feel our data collection during and after the test should be completed, with a questionnaire using axis similar to a research exercise completed earlier on in the project, by using an in-game video tracking system to log player activity and by professionally monitoring each test, while making notes, first hand.
The final subjects addressed consisted of the in-game testing environment and the possibility of any mechanical inclusions such as dialogue options and weapon exclusivity. We felt that the setting of our test must make sense in regards to what we're testing, but also not interfere too much with the interaction/link between the player and the NPC. Features such as dialogue options and weapon exclusivity were deemed possible in regards to their inclusion in the test, however the variables they produce and exactly how they're used need to always be considered.
Items addressed:
i. Easter Work.
ii. NPC Characterisation and Design.
iii. Test 'Features.'
iv. Test Data Collection Methods.
v. In-Game Environment and Scenes.
